Aside from being one of the coolest and most self-assured 13-year-olds who ever walked the earth, she’s also growing into a singer/songwriter with depth and an aura comparable to a teenage Erykah Badu (Willow says she’s obsessed with E). She and Jaden have been releasing a lot of music on the “Wilough
Soundcloud” page lately, and she recently dropped a solo banger that shows her brand of experimental soul music, unconventional song structure and playful pop melodies.
In a recent interview with The Fader, while talking about the sound of her new music, Willow said that even though her new stuff sounds very different from “Whip My Hair,” she is preaching the same message:
“I don’t think it’s that different from what I was saying before, cause I was saying ‘Love yourself’ and ‘You have to live your life for yourself.’ Now I’m just coming to the spiritual and consciousness aspects of it … My lyrics are probably what’s gonna be packing the most punch, and my tracks are in the background just coolin it, like, ‘Hear what she just said?’”
